Project Details

Location: Dallas, Texas
Architect: Ralph Duesing (originally Hal Thomson)

One of the small number of historic homes still in existence in Highland Park, Dallas, by Hal Thomson built in the early twentieth century. This style has been described as American Georgian. A large entry hall with walnut-and-oak parquet custom floors in this 1915 house. Dallas architect Ralph Duesing updated the home. The generous entry hall has custom hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, vintage Louis XVI-style painted consoles, and a gold Barovier Murano chandelier. A pair of faux-bamboo painted chairs nestle into the curved stairway. A curved stairway carpeted in the Continental style in Martin Patrick Evan custom carpet. Stair retainers by Stark. The living room is large and separated into two seating areas. One side of the large living room has a lovely pair of brass-and-glass Louis XVI-style tables and a coffee table in bronze with an opaline top - all vintage from the 1940s - and the Paris Banquette from the Jan Showers Collection. The floor lamp to the right of the piano is the Capri from the Jan Showers Collection. Art by James Welling. On the opposite side of the living room are a pair of Antique French stools, ceramic lamps by Paul Schneider, a custom Chesterfield Sofa and a custom tea table in gold-leafed steel. Art by Toby Ziegler. One of my favorite rooms in the house is a chocolate-brown bar with a custom banquettes in ivory-tufted leather and is perfect for entertaining. The solarium in this house is now used as the family's casual dining room with chairs for reading and lounging. The wallcovering is by Phillip Jeffries. Outside the lush gardens and statues bring the inside out.
